His success has been so big that he even went to the Ellen Show!
"And now you know. But for me to give you Mathew right off the bat... that's me trusting you. It's me saying hi, welcome to my life, not everything is pretty or perfect or edited with jump cuts. That's Tyler. You know Tyler. It's time for me to tell you all of Mathew's stories." (Oakley, 4)
That's the last sentence of the first chapter and I think it's really honest of him to tell us that there is another side of him and that not everything is pretty of perfect like we seen in his videos. I think it's really interesting how he is separating Tyler of YouTube from Mathew who we were about to get to know.
"I always get asked why the background of my phone is a picture of orange chicken; it's my reminder not to run from my wolf anymore." (Oakley, 44)
I personally think this is a very powerful quote because his talking about his eating disorder. The very start of this paragraph talks about how a friend of him Hannah Hart has a painting on her office of a girl walking on a forest side by side with a wolf and she said that the picture reminds her not to run from your fears. Tyler is saying that he consider his eating disorder a inner demon and I think is very wise of him to make a connection with the wolf in the painting.
The book is so realistic because he not only talks about his success and the events he have participated but he also talks about his sad and difficult time like his eating disorder how his parent didn't accept him and thought it was a mental disorder when he told him he was gay, and how he was poor growing up. Most of the chapters in Binge are hilarious and happy talking how he interviewed lots of celebrities like Ed Sheeran, Nick Jonas, Lady Gaga and millions more, how he won a teen choice awards. The book also has parts were it talks about what Tyler likes and what he hates and I think that a big reason why the book it so good and its because most books like this just tells achievements and things that went bad in the persons life but this book really let the reader get to know Tyler Oakley.
